Cholesterol

Cholesterol, circulation
Cholesterol is a lipid substance necessary for the functioning of our body. It is part of the lipid membranes of cells, neuronal envelopes and bile. It regulates the work of various receptors and enzymes. It produces a wide range of extremely important compounds, such as vitamin D, sex hormones: estrogens, progesterone and testosterone, and cortisone - a hormone produced in the adrenal cortex.

Excess cholesterol in the body, called hypercholesterolemia, is very harmful. It accumulates in the walls of blood vessels and leads to the formation of atherosclerotic plaque. Atherosclerotic plaque causes inflammation and narrows the lumen of blood vessels, as a result of which a heart attack or stroke can occur.

Cholesterol circulating in the blood is precisely a combination of a protein and a cholesterol molecule. It is its transport form, which takes the form of LDL - low-density lipoprotein, HDL - high-density lipoprotein and several other, less important forms. *LDL is known as "bad" cholesterol because its role is to transport cholesterol into cells. HDL is the "good" cholesterol because it transports excess cholesterol from the cells to the liver, where it is metabolized. That's why it's so important to aim to lower LDL and raise HDL.

In order to improve the results of your lipid profile, you must first address your lifestyle. The reason for poor results is usually an incorrect diet, and it is not only about eating products rich in fat, but also sweets, highly processed food, chips and other snacks, and alcohol. Smoking and low physical activity are also very important factors.

Herbs for high blood pressure and cholesterol
Taking care of a healthier lifestyle usually leads to improved lipid profile results (and many others). If the lesion is too small, the doctor prescribes drug treatment and prescribes statins. However, before reaching for drugs, it is worth trying natural methods of lowering cholesterol. In the plant world, there is a wide variety of herbs that can help us with this.

Cholesterol lowering herbs
Herbs for high cholesterol work on many levels. First of all, they stimulate the metabolism of cholesterol and its excretion, and also inhibit its absorption from food. Secondly, they provide a lot of bioactive compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that inhibit the formation of atherosclerotic plaque and help to "dissolve" the existing one. In addition, they improve blood circulation and the condition of blood vessels.
